Jupiter's Rory McIlroy files for divorce from wife, Erica, after 7 years of marriage

LOUISVILLE — Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife, Erica, claiming their marriage is "irretrievably broken."

.The couple, who live in Jupiter, has been married seven years. They have one child together, daughter Poppy, born in 2020.

McIlroy, 35, filed Monday with the Palm Beach County Clerk Courts. TMZ first reported the news.

In the petition for dissolution of marriage, McIlroy asked the prenuptial agreement the couple entered into in March, 2017, remains valid and is enforced; and both parties contribute to the support of their daughter.

The Northern Irishman and No. 2 ranked golfer in the world is in Louisville preparing for this week's PGA Championship at Valhalla. He is schedule to speak with the media Wednesday.

The couple met in 2012. The former Erica Stoll, who was born and raised in Rochester, N.Y., worked as the PGA’s manager of championship volunteer operations and they met when she helped save him from missing his tee time at the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah, outside of Chicago, because of a time-zone mishap, and remained friends.

McIlroy was dating tennis superstar Caroline Wozniacki at the time and became engaged to Wozniacki before they called it off in 2014.

McIlroy and Stoll then became serious and got engaged in 2015. They were married April 21, 2017.
