TXT Yeonjun took on the challenge of covering BTS icon Jungkook‘s global hit track “3D.” While fans were impressed at Yeonjun’s rendition of the song, the singer shared the struggle of taking up the mammoth task in a new documentary.

Choi Yeonjun is often called the ‘ace’ of the K-pop act Tomorrow X Together, a.k.a. TXT. The singer’s powerful dance moves and striking visuals have won fans since his debut. Along with participating in fun TikTok trends, the K-pop artist has covered some legendary K-pop tracks.

At the SBS Gayo 2022 music festival, he stunned fans by covering Blackpink’s “Shut Down” and ‘Run BTS.” In 2023, he continued the trend by covering Jungkook’s massive hit “3D.”

Covering a Jungkook song is not easy, and Yeonjun shared that the pressure of being compared to the BTS legend was hovering in his mind. The TXT member expressed his concerns in BIGHIT MUSIC’s new documentary, ‘Make it Happen’ Winter 2023.

“Studying him wasn’t that easy. His relaxed aura was all from experience. So it wasn’t easy to recreate that. The years of experience he had aren’t something I can copy,” the TXT star shared.

He explained the process of covering songs means a comparison is bound to occur. So he tries to ‘become’ the artist to pull off the most authentic cover. But for “3D,” he did not think that was possible.

But the documentary shows his passion to excel at the cover. The 24-year-old chose not to give up and prolonged his practice hours even in an ’empty studio.’ Yet, right before the SBS Gayo performance, the singer fell sick.

After two days of break from the practice, Yeonjun arrived at the rehearsal with new inspiration. His ‘winning’ formula was to perform similarly to Jungkook but add a few special personal touches, which makes the cover uniquely Yeonjun.

The strategy worked as the live performance got huge responses from the fans. Yeonjun shared that dance is ‘inseparable’ from him now, so fans can expect the TXT star to continue covering iconic K-pop tracks in the future.
