Aside from both being Academy award winners, Binoche and MacLaine share in common a real-life character they have both played — French designer Coco Chanel.

MacLaine portrayed the late fashion designer and businesswoman in the 2008 biopic Coco Chanel and Binoche is gearing up to appear as Chanel in the upcoming Apple TV+ series The New Look, released Feb. 14.

Speaking about the role last year, Binoche told Variety, “There were 10 great scripts because it’s 10 episodes, and it’s going to be like playing different roles because we’ll show her at different stages of her life. But I can’t say more at this point.”

Binoche won an Academy award for Best Supporting Actress for The English Patient (1996), while MacLaine won for Best Actress in Terms of Endearment (1983).

Last year, MacLaine celebrated the 40th anniversary of the classic film — which was nominated for 11 Oscars altogether — along with the rest of the cast which included Jack Nicholson, Jeff Daniels, Danny DeVito, and John Lithgow.

Director James L. Brooks spoke to PEOPLE about how he cast MacLaine in Terms of Endearment.

“The truth is that I spent maybe two months talking to great American actresses past 50, and it was fantastic. I'll just never have a time like that again. Then, when I was with Shirley, it became clear that she was the one,” Brooks told PEOPLE in November.

“Historically, she has one of the greatest careers of any American actress. Drama is her friend, of course, but she has a comedy sense,” he added.
