Promoting Her Memoir

Julie Andrews' second memoir, Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years, was released this week, and there are a few revelations in there. According to Deadline,

In her teenage years, she discovered her biological father was a family friend with whom her mother had had an affair. She also notes that her parents were alcoholics, and that her stepfather, Ted Andrews, tried twice to get into bed with her. She fitted a lock on her bedroom door to end his attempts.

Andrews’s marriage was failing as she was making The Sound of Music. She saw a psychoanalyst and briefly thought about giving up acting and singing. But as she was leaving the therapist’s office one day, she met her next husband, Blake Edwards, driving a Rolls. “He was devastatingly funny, wicked even, but there was something dangerous about him,” she said. He was 13 years her senior and the courted over two years before they married in 1969 and had five children.

Stopping By Ellen

Edwards and Andrews worked together on a number films, including 10 starring Andrews and Dudley Moore. Andrews stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote her memoir, and she shared a hilarious anecdote about their time making that movie. Ellen mentioned that Edwards and Andrews "must have gone to some wild parties" while they were in Hollywood in the '60s and '70s.

Andrews was ready to spill the beans on an orgy she attended... well, a fake orgy. The Princess Diaries star shared that while filming 10, she got a good look at a sex party created for the movie.

She Had To See For Herself

She explained that Edwards encouraged her to crash the party.

"There was one party that actually was manufactured for the movie 10. I think my character in 10 had to look through a telescope and see that my boyfriend, sweet Dudley Moore, was in fact invading a neighbor's house where they were having an orgy.

He said, 'Julie, you've just got to come on over here. It's an unbelievable sight.'

So I went dashing over, of course I did."

She Called It "Adorable"

Would you like to hear Julie Andrews describe a fictional orgy? Of course you do.

"And what Blake had done was hire an awful lot of people who really are very at ease doing orgy films, I guess. And I walked in and everybody was stark naked and lying around very happily and casually, treating it totally normally.

And there was sweet Dudley in the middle of it all, and you know, he wasn't very, very tall. And Blake put him between two enormously statuesque ladies. So he was completely naked, and these two ladies were naked, but their bums were up here and little Dudley's was down there. So sweet."

Who else but Julie Andrews could describe an orgy as "sweet?"
