Julianne Nicholson isn’t holding her breath for a “Mare of Easttown” Season 2, but still would “100 percent” return to the HBO series if given the chance.

Nicholson, who won an Emmy along with co-stars Kate Winslet and Evan Peters, told People the long-awaited second season is “not impossible” but also not currently in the works. “Mare of Easttown” starred Winslet as a Pennsylvania detective investigating a series of missing girls. The show was created by Brad Ingelsby.

“It’s not impossible,” Nicholson said of a second season. “You never know.”

She added that she would “100 percent” reprise her role, “if there [was a Season 2] and Kate still was Mare and Jean [Smart] was her mom and Brad wrote it.”

However, Nicholson added, “I’m definitely not waiting for it. I’m not losing sleep over it. But if that was happening and I was invited to join, yeah, definitely.”

“Mare of Easttown” lead star Winslet addressed a potential Season 2, hinting in 2021 the follow-up installment could focus on “atrocities” in the police force. Winslet later said in 2022 “no decision has been made” at the time for green lighting a second season.

“How would it evolve?” Winslet wondered during the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast. “It was all so good and it was way more successful and prominent as a piece of television than I think any of us could have anticipated or hoped for, and we all feel enormously proud of what we were able to do. I feel so proud of all of the actors.”

She added of the dark role, “It was a lot for me to play that character. I’m not going to lie. Coming out the other side was frighteningly hard. It made me realize, ‘Oh my god, if I go to work now, it really hurts,’ and I have to look after myself. I have a family. I can’t just do that. My god, it was really tough. So the question is, do you quit while you’re ahead? Do you hold your head high and say, ‘Look at what we did, I’m so proud of that’ and just walk away? Or do we go for it again?”

Nicholson was most recently seen in A24’s “Dream Scenario” alongside Nicolas Cage. She’s currently filming the BBC series “Dope Girls” opposite Eliza Scanlen, and she’ll next be seen in James Hawes’ film “The Amateur,” which also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Rami Malek, and Caitríona Balfe.
