Julia Stiles Secretly Welcomed Baby No. 3: ‘I Am Running on Fumes’

Julia Stiles just casually revealed that she welcomed her third baby last year, and we couldn’t be more excited for her! The 10 Things I Hate About You star opened up about mom life and how exhausted she is with three kids (honestly, same!!), in a new interview.
“I’m kind of like a bundle of emotions, because I have a 5-month-old baby and I went into directing my first movie,” she told The New York Times on Wednesday, per PEOPLE, referencing the film Wish You Were Here. The 43-year-old is also mom to sons Strummer, 6, and Arlo, 2, with husband Preston Cook.

“I didn’t really talk about [the pregnancy],” she continued in her interview. But despite keeping mum about the baby’s sex or name, she did open up about how motherhood has helped her in her newest venture as a director.
“I think that actually being a mom is really great training for being a director,” the Save the Last Dance star told the outlet. “You have to think 10 steps ahead but also be in the present moment. You have to be good at time management. You have to be sensitive to people’s needs and guide them, but also hold a boundary.”
She added, “I am running on fumes in terms of sleep. But I feel more energized than I ever have.”
The Prince and Me star keeps her kids out of the spotlight, but she does occasionally share tidbits about life as a mom. Like when she shared a selfie with part of a fake eyelash on her forehead. “The kids redid my makeup. #lewk” she quipped in the caption.
When her eldest child was 1, Stiles reflected on motherhood in a June 2019 interview with Romper. “My focus is less inward,” she said. “I don’t go home and dwell on what I did at work that day, and I don’t lie in bed thinking about the scene coming up tomorrow and stress about it. It’s made me much more fluid as an actress.”
Stiles added, “Toddlers are very much in the present moment. And his enthusiasm for the world, and the way that he sees things newly … that is all passed on to me as well, and I think that can only help you as an actor.”
Her kids have likely influenced her directorial debut too, and we can’t wait to see the film when it comes out. Congratulations to the new family of 5!
