‘Julia’ season 2 trailer: Julia Child charms France and the White House [WATCH]

“Lucy, we’re home!,” jokes Julia Child upon her return to the WGBH studios from her sojourn in the South of France in the trailer for the second season of “Julia,” the Max comedy series. The popular television chef may be spoofing “I Love Lucy,” but the return of the critically-acclaimed series is a welcome homecoming for viewers who have been waiting for new episodes since the first season finished airing 18 months ago. The new footage teases Child’s (Sarah Lancashire) trip to France with her husband Paul (David Hyde Pierce) as she collaborates with her French cookbook co-writer Simone Beck (Isabella Rossellini). After testing recipes – and after a surprise outing to Paris with Paul – she returns to a booming television program and is confronted by the executives’ idea of introducing “product placement” to her latest episodes. The success of “The French Chef” puts pressure on the network to develop more programming, a responsibility that falls on Julia’s producer Alice (Brittany Bradford), while her original producer Russ (Fran Kranz) develops a program about the Vietnam War.

The pressure seems to drip into other aspects of the season, too. While Bebe Neuwirth’s Avis DeVoto has a new beau (played by a new addition to the cast, Tony Award-winner Danny Burstein), it looks like it creates a rift between her and Julia, as Avis says, “Friendship is a two-way street. I put up with you. Put up with me.” Julia’s book editor Judith (Fiona Glascott) is also once again at loggerheads with her boss, Blanche (Judith Light). And Paul has to remind Julia that she’s a “wonderful woman succeeding in a mediocre man’s world.” To cap off her string of successes, the trailer ends with a tease about Julia’s trip for a behind-the-scenes look of the kitchen of the White House. As always, the new episodes also look to be stuffed with sumptuous shots of food.

The second season of “Julia” begins streaming on Max on November 16.
