A screenwriter for Harriet opened up this week about a studio executive who suggested that Julie Roberts play the role of Harriet Tubman. He revealed in a piece for the Los Angeles Times that he first worked on the script 25 years ago, when a “then president of a studio” suggested Roberts for the role of Tubman. A “single black person in that studio meeting” told him that Harriet Tubman was a black woman, to which the executive replied, “That was so long ago. No one will know that.”

Burger King sued for possibly contaminated Impossible Whoppers

Burger King was sued this week by a vegan customer who claimed its meatless “Impossible” Whopper was contaminated from being cooked on the same grills as beef burgers. The lawsuit is seeking damages for all purchases of the Impossible Whopper.

Children’s LGBTQ fairy tale pulled from library after pastor complains

A public library in West Virginia pulled a LGBTQ children’s fairy tale this week after a pastor complained that it would “indoctrinate” young readers. The picture book, “Prince & Knight” is about a prince’s quest to find true love, and after he turns down a number of women, he falls in love with a handsome knight. The pastor, Josh Layfield of Calvary Chapel Mountain Highlands, shared on Facebook that a concerned citizen brought the book to his attention, and he then went to the library director to have the book removed.
