Julia Roberts envisions a bittersweet ending to Pretty Woman's fairy-tale love story.

In a recent interview with CBS Mornings, the rom-com queen, 56, was asked what she thinks the 1990 movie's iconic couple — Vivian and Edward — would be up to these days.

Roberts' answer will likely pierce the hearts of fans everywhere. "I think he passed away peacefully in his sleep from a heart attack, smiling," she told host Gayle King of Edward, who was famously played by Richard Gere.

As for her sassy and resourceful character Vivian, Roberts thinks she would have stepped into Edward's shoes. “And now she runs his business," she said.

The Oscar winner also shared her "where are they now?" predictions for several other of her most memorable characters, including Daisy (and beau Charles) of Mystic Pizza. "Let's hope they're still together and they have a bunch of cute little kiddos," she said, giving them a happier fate than Edward and Vivian.

When King, 68, asked about My Best Friend's Wedding, and whether Julianne's unrequited love for Michael ever turned into a real romance, Roberts insisted that the story ended just as it should have.

"No, he's married and faithful to his wife. And George and Julianne start a do-it-yourself show on HGTV and become wildly famous," she joked, referring to her character's gay sidekick, played by Rupert Everett.

Roberts also mused about 1999's Runaway Bride, which saw her and Gere, 74, reunite as the romantic leads.

"Maggie literally rides off into the sunset with Richard Gere after leaving four other men at the altar. What happens to her?" King prompted.

"They stay together. He doesn't die in this one. They're going to stay together," Roberts replied.

For her Notting Hill character Anna, Roberts envisions that the world-famous actress has left Hollywood far behind to care for a large brood of kids in London. "She's retired. She has six children and has maintained her waist size amazingly," she told King.

Anna has also traded glamorous film sets for quiet days behind a shop counter. "[William] runs the bookshop still and now there's a little knitting annex next to the bookshop that [Anna] runs," Roberts added.

Elsewhere in the interview, Roberts opened up about her 21-year marriage to husband Danny Moder, calling him her "favorite human."

"He's so smart and kind and dynamic in the way that he looks at the world and admires people. He's just so strong and loving," she raved.

In a Today show appearance earlier this month, Roberts praised Moder for being the "anchor" of their family, which includes twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter, 19, and son Henry Daniel, 16.

“It all starts with Danny Moder,” she explained. "[He is] our person and in the most beautiful way, the captain of our ship."

She said her husband made her look at life in a completely new way. “For me, understanding how deeply felt life could be really started with him," she noted.
