The new Fantastic Four movie made a fantastic addition to its cast: Julia Garner!

The Emmy-winning Ozark star has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe project as a version of the Silver Surfer, PEOPLE confirms. Deadline first reported the casting.

A rep for Garner did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

The casting follows Marvel’s Feb. 14 reveal that the Fantastic Four reboot will feature Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch.

Garner, 30 is reportedly playing Shalla-Bal, created by Stan Lee and John Buscema. The character first appeared alongside the four astronauts-turned-superheroes in 1968 as the lover of Silver Surfer Norrin Radd.

The actress, best known for playing Ruth Langmore on Ozark, earned three Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe for her work in the Jason Bateman-led Netflix drama. She was also Emmy-nominated for playing Anna Sorokin in the Netflix miniseries Inventing Anna, and was due to portray pop star Madonna in a big-screen project that has since been put on hold

The Fantastic Four will bring the iconic characters back to the big screen following the most recent version, a 2015 remake outside the MCU starring Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell. Previously, two films in 2005 and 2007 launched the foursome into superhero cinema with Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis in the same roles.

John Krasinski also played a parallel version of Reed Richards in the MCU’s 2022 installment Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Entertainment Weekly in 2023 that "Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics. There's certainly been [film] versions of it, but never inhabiting the storytelling of the MCU. And that's something that is really exciting for us.”

The upcoming film is directed by Matt Shakman, with its screenwriters including Jeff Kaplan, Ian Springer, Josh Friedman, Cameron Squires and Eric Pearson. Shankman directed all nine episodes of the MCU Disney+ series WandaVision.

The Fantastic Four hits in theaters on July 25, 2025.
