Juicy J was barred from wearing his straightjacket and Hannibal Lector mask during an appearance on Good Morning America.

TMZ caught up with the Three 6 Mafia co-founder and inquired on the reasoning behind him not appearing on the national daytime talk show with the outfit he’s been wearing in an attempt to de-stigmatize views surrounding mental health.

“Good Morning America, they didn’t want me to wear the jacket,” he responded when asked about the incident. “It’s all good, it wasn’t no problem. I wasn’t tripping, that’s why I brought other outfits.”

Juicy further explained his reasoning behind wearing the straightjacket, declaring his advocacy of mental health while prompting those struggling with mental and emotional issues to seek assistance professionally or from their loved ones.

“I wear that straightjacket to let people know about mental health awareness,” he said. “You don’t have to do nothing crazy, get some help. Call 988 [Suicide and Crisis Lifeline], call a friend, call your mama, call somebody. Don’t go hurt yourself.”

The Memphis rhymer’s increased focus on mental health comes in the wake of the death of Three 6 Mafia member Gangsta Boo, who passed away on New Years Day as a result of an accidental drug overdose. His last full-length musical release, Mental Trillness, was centered around the topic of mental health and included guest spots from Finesse2Tymes, Xavier Wulf, La Chat, and a posthumous appearance from Gangsta Boo.

Juicy J appeared on Good Morning America to promote his new book “Chronicles of the Juice Man,” which he co-wrote with author Soren Baker. The rapper says the biography will cover a myriad of topics and give insight into the man behind the music “I’m talking about mental health, I’m talking about just getting through life,” he reveals. “God, family, drug abuse, all kinds of [stuff].”
