Tony and Emmy winner Judith Light will be honored with the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s lifetime achievement award in honor of her storied stage and screen career.

Light made her Broadway debut in 1975 in the revival of “A Doll’s House” and in 2001, she played the lead role in STC’s production of “Hedda Gabler,” directed by Michael Kahn. In 2012 and 2013, she earned back-to-back Tonys for “Other Desert Cities” and “The Assembled Parties.” In 2019, she was presented with the Tony Awards’ Isabelle Stevenson Award for years of advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Her stellar resume of film and TV credits ranges from “One Life to Live” and “Who’s the Boss” to recent hits like Starz’ horror comedy “Shining Vale,” Searchlight’s “The Menu,” Netflix’s “Tick, Tick… Boom!,” the musical finale of Amazon’s “Transparent” and two installments of “American Crime Story” for FX.

Last month, Light, who was already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner, finally added a Primetime Emmy to her lengthy list of achievements when she won for her guest-starring role on Peacock’s “Poker Face.” Next up, Light stars opposite Billy Crystal in the Apple TV+ series “Before,” and her Disney+ film “Out of My Mind” just premiered at Sundance.

STC’s annual gala will take place on April 15 at the Anthem on the Washington D.C. Wharf, with Light set to be feted alongside Tony winner John Lithgow and Olivier Award winner Indira Varma. Light and Lithgow receive lifetime achievement awards, while Varma accepts the William Shakespeare Award for Classical Acting (aka the “Will Award”); Varma’s award will be presented by her “Macbeth” co-star, Tony-winner Ralph Fiennes, who received the prize in 2001.

Performers for the evening — titled “All the World’s a Stage: Celebrating the US/UK Relationship” and emceed by The BBC’s Katty Kay — include D.C.-native Nova Y. Payton, West End star Scarlett Strallen and Tony nominee Jordan Donica (“Camelot”).
