Juanes TV show in the works from Jane the Virgin producer Ben Silverman

Juanes set for TV show based on his life story

Juanes’ music is known the world over and now his life story will be too, with the news that a TV show based on his rise to superstardom is in the development stages.

The rocker has teamed up with Jane the Virgin producer Ben Silverman to create a show titled Persiguiendo el Sol (Chasing the Sun) that will follow Juanes’ early life in Colombia through his arrival as an aspiring musician in Miami. And this won’t be some sappy bio-series: it seems that Persiguiendo el Sol will take an edgy tone, and according to a press release, “will stylistically be in the vein of an Entourage meets Narcos bilingual drama.”

The bilingual show – named for Juanes’ 2012 biography – comes just over a year after the singer first collaborated with Silverman by providing several songs for the first season of Jane the Virgin. The Grammy winner also appeared on the hit show as its first A-list guest star, playing a hotshot music producer.

Juanes and Silverman have tapped showrunner Eric Newman (Narcos) to bring the singer’s story to the small screen. There’s no word as whether the planned series has earned any any network interest, but Silverman has a background in reaching bilingual audiences: in addition to Jane the Virgin, his Latino-leaning projects include Ugly Betty and Killer Women.
