Joyce Manor and Tigers Jaw have teamed up for a new double single featuring each band covering a song by the other. Listen to Joyce Manor’s version of “I Saw Water” and Tigers Jaw’s version of “Constant Headache” below.
The collaboration arrives after a 2021 show in Central Park that was originally supposed to feature both bands. Weather forced the rescheduling of the show, which resulted in Tigers Jaw having to drop off the lineup. Joyce Manor, in turn, tried to make it up to fans by covering Tigers Jaw’s 2008 song “I Saw Water” for their encore. Now, the new double single features that 2021 live cover version, as captured through the soundboard from that night.
“I got the idea to cover the song for the people who were disappointed Tigers Jaw wouldn’t be playing, and it ended up being my favorite moment of a very memorable set,” Joyce Manor’s Barry Johnson said in a statement. “I’m so happy it was captured by our sound guy, Ty, and that we didn’t have to go into the recording studio and try to recapture the magic of this performance. It’s truly one of my favorite songs ever and one of my favorite Joyce Manor recordings.”
The Tigers Jaw version of “Constant Headache,” meanwhile, takes on a similar feel as the Joyce Manor original, with a crisp, studio sound, and the band’s Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins splitting vocal duties.
Both covers are available now on DSPs, and will also be released on a limited-edition, cloudy blue vinyl 7” via Epitaph/Hopeless. Pre-orders are ongoing, with the vinyl set to ship “around” November 22nd. In addition, Joyce Manor also shared a video of the 2021 performance of “I Saw Water” at Central Park, which you can watch below.
