Joy of Life Season 2 Ep 2 Recap & Spoilers: Does Zhang Ruoyun Receive Capital Punishment?

The ongoing Wuxia C-drama Joy of Life Season 2, starring Zhang Ruoyun, released its first set of episodes on May 16, 2024. Episode two focuses on Fan Xian’s (Zhang Ruoyun) return to the capital. Chen Ping Ping and Yan Ruohai discuss what will happen if Fan Xian has truly passed away. President Chen believes that it will lead to chaos and that many people will accompany him to death. On the other hand, if he faked his death, he would be considered a traitor and receive capital punishment.

Meanwhile, Fan Xian has gone into hiding at Qi Nian’s house. Qi Nian goes out to gather information about the Teng family. He finds out that the news of Fang Xian’s death has reached the government. Qi Nian advises him to leave the capital and move to the convoy, as the emperor will most definitely behead him if he finds out about his lies. Fan Xian decides to come clean and accept responsibility. He leaves to meet the emperor.

Fan Xian secretly enters the palace. However, he almost gets caught but is saved at the last moment by Eunuch Hou, who advises him against going in front of the emperor. Fan Xian next meets Chen Ping Ping. He scolds him and warns him about receiving the capital punishment. Fan Xian tries to justify his action by saying that he did it to save someone. Ping Ping suggests that he meet the emperor and ask for forgiveness.

Joy of Life Season 2 ep 2: Zhang Ruoyun returns to the capital

Ping Ping advises him not to trust him blindly, either. Fan Xian gives him a manuscript detailing the secrets of the divine temple and urges him to deliver it to the emperor. Ping Ping does not even show interest in knowing what it is. Furthermore, he asks Fan Xian not to return to him or the Fan residence.

Ping Ping visits the emperor to alert him about the rising protests from the Qin scholars after Fan Xian’s death. He tries to persuade the emperor to grant Fan Xian forgiveness if he is still alive. He reminds him that the uprising of the literary circle in Qin is still in the process. Fan Xian can help in this regard, as he is the next literary model. Ping Ping advocates for Fan Xian, saying that he still wishes to put his life on the line to meet the emperor.

Fan Xian falls to his knees and asks for forgiveness from the emperor. He expresses his gratitude to the Majesty, who has always been merciful towards him. He urges him not to ignore the country’s fate, as the secrets he collected while stationed in Northern Qi can be helpful for the future of the kingdom. Fan Xian mentions how he was blackmailed by Li Cheng Ze’s men, and he also mentions how Xiao En revealed the secrets of the divine temple to him before his death. The emperor asks him to leave.

Fan Xian meets up with the crown prince, Li Chengyu, and reveals how Princess Yun Rui and the second prince have joined hands to smuggle money. But the crown prince does not want to believe that his aunt can side with Li Cheng Ze.
