Joy of Life Season 2 Ep 9 Recap & Spoilers: What Was Zhang Ruoyun Accused Of?

The ongoing Wuxia C-drama Joy of Life Season 2, starring Zhang Ruoyun, released episode nine on May 19, 2024. This latest episode focuses on Fan Xian’s (Zhang Ruoyun) reaction to the allegations brought against him. The second crown prince is puzzled to hear that Fan Xian has been accused of taking bribes. He wonders if this will lead to the emperor indicting him. Also, he is unsure whether Fan Xian has been scheming something. Furthermore, his trusted advisor asks him to use this opportunity to make a complaint so that they can chase Fan Xian away.

Meanwhile, the emperor comes to know about the impeachment as well. Several metropolitan censors have charged Fan Xian for conducting private dance, taking bribes, and also for his arrogant and perverted nature. Fan Xian, on the other hand, finds the accusations rather amusing. At first, he plans to stay quiet and not send any replies. But the head eunuch convinces him to defend himself and wait for the majesty’s holy judgment. After giving it a serious thought, Fan Xian sends Qi Nian with a message for the censors. In the short reply, he mentions that they like to talk big but do not have the courage to persuade him. His reply angers the censors even further.

Fan Xian then visits Yan Bing Yuo to share details about the ongoing investigation. Fan Xian shares that the second prince, Chen Zre, is erasing traces of his illegal activities. They discuss possible ways the second prince spends the illegal gains. Bing Guo thinks that he spends it to bribe officials and the training department, as well as to buy soldiers and horses.

Joy of Life Season 2 ep 9: Zhang Ruoyun arrives at the court

The northern imperial army, led by Fan Wu Jiu, the second prince’s guard, attacks Fan Shi Ze’s convoy as they pass through the forest. Also, Fan Wu Jiu instructs them to kill everyone except Shi Ze.

Fan Xian visits the first bureau of the Overwatch Council to inspect the funding. He is astonished to see the guards having extravagant meals that are paid for by the official account. When he inspects further, he finds more money than usual in the account. He decides to interrogate the official, Deng Zi Yue, about it. Fan Xian is impressed when he finds that Zi Yue has never accepted any lavish gifts sent by the vegetable inspection office.

But Deng Zi Yue has never reported any fraud over the years, as he wanted to blend in with others. Gan Xian reminds him of his past self, who upheld integrity over anything. Because of his courage and dignity, Zi Yue, who came from a poor background, managed to achieve so much success in his life. Fan Xian promises to be his protector as long as he reports everything back to him. Fan Xian also asks for his help in writing a self-defense booklet.

In the booklet that only contained a few words, Fan Xian mentions that unfaithful officials are out of control and are ruining the capital, and it is wrong for the censors to only target him. When the emperor reads the booklet, he decides that the censorate and Fan Xian should confront each other at the court.
