Jousters, pirates and fire breathers will fill Wichita park for big Renaissance Festival
Every fall and spring, Wichita’s Sedgwick County Park is transported back in time to the Renaissance period, filled with jousters, knights, knaves, kings and queens. This year’s spring Renaissance & Scottish Festival is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Sedgwick County Park and will include all of the above.
Also on this weekend’s entertainment calendar: the finale of the Wichita Jazz Festival, the PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour at Intrust Bank Arena, and the Midwest Winefest.

Spring Renaissance Festival
10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sedgwick County Park, 6501 W. 21st St.
The 19th Annual Spring Great Plains Renaissance and Scottish Festival is on for this weekend at Sedgwick County Park. The event, which includes aerial acrobats, jousting, belly dancers, singing pirates, falconry and more, happens from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. The event also will include the Wichita Highland Games, lots of Celtic music, vendors, food and more. Tickets are $15 for adults at the gate or $11.95 in advance at www.greatplainsrenfest.com/onlinetickets. Kids tickets are $5 at the gate or free if gotten in advance online.
It’s rodeo time
7 p.m. Saturday, Intrust Bank Arena, 500 E. Waterman
Craving some rodeo action? Some of the world’s best bull riders will be in Wichita this weekend for the PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour, which will arrive at Intrust Bank Arena on Saturday. The Wichita stop will be the 29th of 30 regular-season events, so riders will be competing for important points as they ride toward the 2024 PBR Velocity Tour Championships. Midwest Winefest
5:30-8 p.m. Thursday in Old Town and Saturday, April 27, at Distillery 244, 244 N. Mosley
The Midwest Winefest, a fundraiser of Guadalupe Clinic, is an April tradition in Wichita, and it’ll return later this week. It starts with the Thursday-night Old Town Walkabout, where from 5:30 to 8 p.m., ticket holders will be able to walk between Old Town businesses enjoying food and wine samples. Tickets to that event are $85. Then, on Saturday, April 27, a Reserve Room will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. at Distillery 244 in Old Town. Tickets are $250. Jazz Festival wraps up
Friday and Saturday, WSU and Intrust Bank Arena
The annual Wichita Jazz Festival continues through Saturday at venues across Wichita. It started on Tuesday, and people can still attend two shows. On Friday, Grammy-nominated tenor saxophone player Melissa Aldana will perform along with WSU jazz musicians and the Mid-Kansas Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m. at Wichita State University’s Miller Concert Hall. Tickets are $50, $25 for students with school ID at the Miller Concert Hall box office, which is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. They’re also available by phone at 316-978-3233. Then, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Grammy-nominated The Tierney Sutton Band will perform at Wichita’ Orpheum Theatre. Tickets are $84.50 and student tickets are $44.50 with an ID at the door. School’s Out Powwow
2 p.m. Saturday, Mid-America All-Indian Museum, 650 N. Seneca
The annual Schools’ Out Powwow, put on by Wichita Public Schools’ Title VI Native American Indian Education Program, happens at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mid-America All-Indian Museum, and all are invited. Students in the program organize, run and participate in the powwow, and the lineup of events includes gourd dancing from 2 to 4:30 p.m., a dinner break featuring free traditional meals while supplies last from 4:30 to 6 p.m.; and a 6 p.m. grand entry. The event will also have several vendors set up selling their wares. Admission is free.
Jeff Dunham show
7 p.m. Thursday, Intrust Bank Arena, 500 E. Waterman
Ventriloquist and comedian Jeff Dunham is coming back to Wichita again, this time with his “Still Not Canceled” tour. The show will be at Intrust Bank Arena and will start at 7 p.m. on Thursday featuring Dunham and his cast of characters.
