CANTON – Journey will headline the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival's Concert for Legends on Aug. 6.

Known for a plethora of rock hits in the 1980s, the longtime band will perform on Saturday, unlike past Hall of Fame Festival concerts that were held on Sunday or Monday.

"We are excited that Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Journey will rock the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week stage," Greg Harris, president and CEO of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, said in a prepared statement. "Along with our Canton neighbors, we look forward to welcoming football and rock 'n' roll fans to Northeast Ohio this summer."

Last year's Concert for Legends featured country music superstar Brad Paisley and Jimmie Allen. Lynyrd Skynyrd also was slated to perform but had to drop out at the last minute when a band member tested positive for COVID-19.

Here's some background on Journey

The Concert for Legends won't be Journey's only visit to Northeast Ohio this year.

The band is slated to perform May 7 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.

Journey's hit songs include "Wheel In The Sky," "Any Way You Want It," "Don't Stop Believin'," "Open Arms," "Faithfully," "Lights," "Only the Young," "Be Good to Yourself," "Lovin,' Touchin,' Squeezin'," "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" and "When You Love A Woman."

The band features founder Neal Schon (lead guitarist), Jonathan Cain, who joined the band in 1980 (keyboards, backing vocals), Arnel Pineda (lead vocals), Jason Derlatka (keyboards, backing vocals) and Deen Castronovo (drums and backing vocals).

Former lead vocalist Steve Perry has not been with the band since his second stint in the 1990s. Perry served as frontman during Journey's arena heyday and commercial zenith, which included the No. 1 album, "Escape" in 1981 and a slew of Billboard-charting songs.

Formed in the early '70s, the band has sold more than 100 million records, including two albums that individually have exceeded 10 million in sales.

Journey was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. A new album, "Freedom" is scheduled for release later this year. "The Way We Used to Be," a new track from the forthcoming album, was released last year.

Journey is currently on the "Freedom" tour and is scheduled to perform in Salt Lake City on Thursday.

The Concert for Legends is being presented by the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Co.

“Journey has been entertaining its fans for almost 50 years since the band’s founding, and we are thrilled to be working with Hall of Fame Village to bring these members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to the Hall of Fame City,” said Jim Porter, president of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “This Concert for Legends promises to be a memorable experience for fans filling Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium and a spectacular way to close out the Saturday lineup of events for Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls.”
