Jodie Turner-Smith filed for divorce on Monday (Oct. 2) from her husband and father of her child, Joshua Jackson, after four years of marriage. The split came as a surprise to many, considering the pair were just spotted together during New York Fashion Week 2023 last month.

The Dawson’s Creek actor is reportedly “heartbroken” over his wife’s decision to end their marriage, according to Daily Mail. An insider for the 45-year-old told the outlet, “Joshua is heartbroken over the impending divorce. He always thought that he would be married and grow old with his family, and everything would be happily ever after.”

Adding, “He had the dream scenario in his mind, and Jodie was his person and the person he thought he would be with forever. He never wanted this for their [three-year-old] daughter, [Juno Rose Diana].”

The source later noted that Jackson “would have loved nothing more than” to be with the Queen & Slim actress, and “in a perfect world would probably even take her back if she were to stop the divorce.” However, he is coming to terms with her decision.

The two met in 2018 and had a one-night stand, Turner-Smith told Seth Meyers in a 2021 interview. Jackson explained to Jimmy Fallon that his now-estranged wife was “adamant” about making their relationship official and proposed on New Year’s Eve 2018. However, he did propose traditionally before they wed in August 2019. They welcomed their daughter in April 2020.

Turner-Smith is requesting joint custody of their child, but is not asking for spousal support on either side as they didn’t have a prenup in place.

Despite spending her birthday together during NYFW, a rep told Entertainment Tonight that they arrived and left separately. They also shared that their work schedules caused a rift in their romance.

The source continued, “From an outside perspective, things looked great for a while, but privately, they were slowly growing apart. They are trying to be amicable as they move forward with their divorce and trying to avoid any feelings of animosity. They’re both respectful of each other and focused on co-parenting their daughter. They want to have a positive relationship for her sake and for themselves.”

In the divorce petition, the actress listed Sept. 13 as the date of the separation and cited the cause as “irreconcilable differences,” not infidelity.
