Josh Ritter Debuts Jaunty New Christmas Tune on Amazon’s Acoustic Christmas Playlist: Exclusive Premiere

’Tis the season for new holiday music. On Friday, Amazon Music’s Acoustic Christmas playlist will bow 21 new tracks.

Among the nearly 2 dozen new and exclusive tunes added to the existing playlist are Yuletide originals from Noah Cyrus, Jim Lauderdale, Nicki Bluhm, The White Buffalo, Noah Gundersen and Josh Ritter, whose entry “Wintertime (The Snow Is Coming Down)” premieres today on Billboard.

Ritter didn’t set out to write a holiday tune, but his creative muse had another idea. “While working on my recent record, Gathering, I was in a phase of writing whatever came to mind,” the singer/songwriter told Billboard in a statement. “I tried not to filter anything. One morning, I woke up with a holiday song in my head. I worked on it a little while and ended up recording it on one of the hottest days of the year.”

The uptempo, twangy tune paints an idyllic portrait of Christmas as people ice skate on the frozen pond, the sound of carolers fills the air, and the snow is coming down.

Two Amazon holiday playlists — Indie for the Holidays and All Is Bright — will also be infused with new holiday cheer on Friday. Additionally, Amazon Originals released Smokey Robinson’s first solo holiday album on Nov. 17.
