Josh Radnor chats with Kyle Meredith about his journey to becoming a songwriter, his favorite breakup albums, and his debut solo album, Eulogy: Volume I.
The How I Met Your Mother and Fleishman Is in Trouble actor retraces his steps of becoming a songwriter during his collaboration with Ben Lee, describes the process of writing a breakup album, and explains the parts of himself he was able to deconstruct through the lyrics.
Radnor then goes on to compare his own creative process with those of the artists who inspire him, like Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. “I’m so inspired by his workman-like, almost blue collar approach to songwriting, while also being like, ‘Yeah, this song took me seven years. I wrote 60 verses,'” he says of Cohen. “Where, someone like Dylan, writes masterpieces in 15 minutes, and that’s just how he’s wired.”
