Josh Lucas' Girlfriend Shares Her Surprising Take on “Sweet Home Alabama”: 'I'm Team Patrick Dempsey'

While speaking with E! News at the premiere of Lucas' new series, Palm Royale, on Thursday, Brianna Ruffalo revealed that she has a surprising take on her partner's 2002 romantic comedy, Sweet Home Alabama, costarring Reese Witherspoon and Patrick Dempsey.
Asked how often she makes Lucas, 52, rewatch the movie, the ABC7 Los Angeles meteorologist said they don't watch it often, before revealing the surprising reason why.
"I'm team Patrick Dempsey," Ruffalo explained.

In Sweet Home Alabama, Lucas plays Jake Perry, the estranged husband of Witherspoon's character, Melanie Smooter. Melanie returns to Alabama to ask Jake for a divorce. She's been living a new life as a New York City socialite for years and plans to marry Dempsey's character, Andrew Hennings.
Jake vows to make the process difficult for Melanie, and along the way, the pair falls in love again as Melanie reconnects with her southern roots.
Ruffalo is in the minority rooting for Dempsey's Andrew to get the girl, and Lucas joked that it's a point of contention in their relationship.

"From day one, she was like, 'Oh yeah, you were the other guy,' " he told E! News. "She was like, 'I didn't like you because you like, stole her from Patrick.' "
Ruffalo laughed that her controversial take has created an "ongoing problem" in their relationship.
The Yellowstone star went on to call out his girlfriend, saying they tried to watch the movie together once, but "she fell asleep like 10 minutes in and was like, 'I'm still team Patrick.' "

Josh Lucas and Reese Witherspoon in 'Sweet Home Alabama'Off-screen, Ruffalo is Lucas' biggest fan.
On Friday, the day after the Palm Royale premiere event, she posted pictures on Instagram of the couple and the cast on the carpet and praised Lucas and his work in the caption.
"Proud girlfriend 💕. So excited for my honey @joshlucas and the absolutely STELLAR cast of Palm Royale," she wrote. "What a beautiful premiere last night with Josh’s family... can’t wait for everyone to see it on @appletv in just a few days 🤩 March 20th! Blown away after seeing the first episode last night and cannot WAIT to see more."
