Josh Gad’s Musical Audition to Be James Corden’s Co-Host on ‘The Late Late Show’

Josh Gad was on a mission to win a co-host seat with James Corden on The Late Late Show, and though you can win more flies with honey, Gad, who plays LeFou in Beauty and the Beast, tried insults instead. To the tune of the musical’s “Little Town,” Gad sang, “James, your jokes they’re a little tired. Monologues really ain’t your niche. They’re so tired. Viewers watch your program just to fall asleep.”

Surprisingly, Gad’s insults and his impressive résumé held no clout with Corden, who said, “Just because you come up here and sing songs from a movie about dancing cutlery doesn’t mean I’m going to let you come down here and ruin my show.”

With Gad’s hosting dreams now dashed, Corden had to persuade a rejected Gad to do what he’d originally been booked for. Taking the iconic Disney tune “Be My Guest”, Corden wooed Gad back through song, and though Gad’s heartbreak was mended, what he really wanted was more glitz and glamour. So Corden gave him the showstopping number he deserved.

The Late Late Show With James Corden airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. on CBS.
