Josh Duhamel’s Son Axel Has the Sweetest Reaction to Becoming a Big Brother

"He's a really sweet kid. And he loves babies!" Josh Duhamel said of 10-year-old Axl

Josh Duhamel is excited for his new baby and so is his son Axl.

In an interview published on Thursday, the Transformers star opened up to Parade about welcoming another child at 50 with wife Audra Mari, and how his 10-year-old is responding to the news.

"He's like, 'Wait, now, am I going to be — You're still going to love me, though, too, right?'” Duhamel said of an inquisitive Axl, whom he shares with his ex-wife Fergie.

“I was like, 'Of course, I'm going to still love you.' And he's like, 'I'm still going to be your firstborn son, though, right?' I'm like, 'Yeah, you're still the firstborn son!' ” the Shotgun Wedding actor added.

"He's a really sweet kid. And he loves babies!" the father said. "I was the same way at his age. I just have always loved babies. There's something about them. And he's really good with younger kids. So I think he's going to be a great older brother."

Last week, Duhamel appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark and discussed his second run with fatherhood and how Axl feels about his growing family.

"You dropped some pretty big news the other day. Do you want to share it with the rest of the audience?" Kelly Ripa asked Duhamel after the Life as We Know It star made a social media announcement beforehand.

"Well, my wife and I are expecting a baby," he said.

"Does Axl know?" Ripa, 52, responded.

"He does know! He's excited," Duhamel admitted. "He's very excited. I don't think he quite understands that it's actually real. He will once he sees this little thing in front of him. I think I'm probably the same."

Ripa noted that 10 is “a great age” because he's “prime big brother material."

"Yeah, I think it's going to be good for him because he's been an only child up to this point," Duhamel continued. "And now he's going to have some responsibility. He's excited. He's going to be a great older brother, too. He's a really sweet-natured kid who loves babies, so I think this is kind of perfect."

Duhamel revealed that Axl “wants to name the baby Gary,” but shot down the idea of him or his wife agreeing.

"I think if we have a dog, we'll name it Gary," the actor quipped. "But no, no."

“Baby Duhamel coming soon 🤍,” Duhamel and Mari announced in a joint Instagram post on Sept. 11 of their first baby together.

“I am truly happy for you guys 🥰🥰 Axl can’t wait to be a big brother,” Fergie wrote in the comments.

Duhamel and Mari married in Fargo, North Dakota, in September 2022.

He and the former pageant queen wed on the rooftop of the area's Jasper Hotel, then reportedly stopped by Duffy's, a local tavern, for food and drinks after the ceremony.

A source told PEOPLE the couple had "a great time" and that the evening "was lovely."

Their engagement was announced in January 2022, when Duhamel uploaded a photo to Instagram of the two smiling on the beach as the sun set.

“It’s on," he captioned the sweet post. "She found a message in a bottle that washed ashore and said YES!! @audramari."
