With Jonathan Majors being found guilty of assault, the internet has brought Josh Brolin’s controversy back into the mix. What happened with the Thanos actor? Why was he arrested, and was he guilty? Here’s all you need to know.

What was Josh Brolin arrested for?

In December 2004, Josh Brolin was arrested on the charges of spousal battery against his ex-wife, Diane Lane.

After getting married in August 2004, the incident involving Brolin and Lane occurred in December when the latter called the LAPD. The Marvel star was arrested after being accused of assaulting Lane. But posting a bail of $20,000, he was let go soon after that. (via Entertainment Weekly)

A publicist even made a statement on behalf of both Brolin and Lane stating that it was simply a misunderstanding that led to Brolin’s arrest. The publicist stated:

“There was a misunderstanding at their home. Diane called the police. Josh ended up being arrested for the lowest-end misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. Diane did not want to press charges and asked them not to arrest him, but in cases involving the possibility of any physical contact, the police have to arrest first, ask questions later. They are home together and are embarrassed the matter went this far.” (via IndieWire)

Following the incident, the couple stayed married for nine more years, before getting divorced in 2014.

Was Josh Brolin found guilty?

No, Josh Brolin was not found guilty after being arrested, as the spousal battery charges were dropped.

As mentioned above, the actor was arrested because of a “misunderstanding.” The charges against him did not hold for long and were ultimately dropped.

Speaking with The New York Times, Brolin further stated that he was done explaining what led to his arrest. He said:

“God, I’ve never been so careful with my words. Ever. Maybe in all 50 years. And there’s no reason for me to be other than there’s no explaining it. Do you know what I mean? The only person who can explain that would be Diane, and she’s chosen not to, so I’m O.K. with that.”

Despite people hunting for similarities in the cases of Jonathan Majors and Josh Brolin, the latter was never found guilty and continued to build a strong career.
