Joseph Cross Teams With James Ponsoldt on Directorial Debut ‘Summer Night’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Joseph Cross will make his directorial debut on the indie drama “Summer Night.” “The Spectacular Now” helmer James Ponsoldt will produce the film.

“Boyhood’s” Ellar Coltrane, Analeigh Tipton, and Justin Chatwin will star in the movie. Callan McAuliffe, Ian Nelson, Hayden Szeto, Lana Condor, Elena Kampouris, Bill Milner, Melina Vidler, Ella Hunt, and Victoria Justice round out the cast.

Tara Ansley and Cross will also produce.

The story takes place over the course of one night, following a close-knit group of young musicians as they grapple with the trials of young love and their creative ambitions.

Angel Cassani, Carlos Mainardi, Ryan Felton, and Lucas Evans will executive produce. UTA Independent Film Group is packaging the film and will represent all domestic rights.

Cross’ acting credits include roles on Netflix’s crime thriller “Mindhunter” and HBO’s “Big Little Lies.” He was also featured in Touchstone Pictures’ “Lincoln” and Focus Features’ “Milk.”

Ponsoldt’s past directing credits include STX’s “The Circle,” A24’s “The End of the Tour,” and “The Spectacular Now.” On the TV side, he has also directed several episodes of Netflix’s “Master of None” and Showtime’s “Shameless.”

Cross, Ponsoldt, Coltrane, Chatwin, Nelson, Szeto, Milner, Hunt, and Justice are all repped by UTA.
