Jose Mourinho bolts news conference, demands respect after Tottenham routs Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho walked out of his postgame news conference following Monday’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur after demanding that the media show more respect for the three English Premier League titles he has won during his career, noting that it’s more than every other current coach in the circuit combined.

“Do you know what this means?” a visibly upset Mourinho, holding up three fingers in a way that can be interpreted as an obscene gesture in England, rhetorically asked one journalist. “Three-nil. But it also means, three Premierships, and I won more Premierships alone, than the other 19 managers together.”

“Three for me and two for them,” he added as he stood up and walked off the dais. The defeat left United, runners-up last season to local rival Manchester City, 13th in the table after three rounds of play.

City is helmed by Pep Guardiola. Manuel Pellegrini, who led City to the title in 2014, is now the manager of West Ham United. Mourinho won Premier League with Chelsea in 2005, 2006 and 2015. He also captured Champions League crowns with Porto (2004) and Inter Milan (2010).

Only in the past decade, there’s been a tiring trademark of Mourinho’s tenures. He lasted just two years at Inter, three at Real Madrid and two in his second stint at Chelsea, and now he looks set to leave United whenever he and the board get sick of each other this season.

Oh, and another trademark has been deflecting poor results in surly fashion. Among the post-match gems:

“The best team.”

“No, I didn’t applaud the Tottenham players.”

“I think if you do what I did before the game, which was looking at the news and looking at Myanmar, I think that’s difficult times.”

With pressure reaching a boiling point on Mourinho’s job status at Old Trafford, expect his responses to only get better.
