Jool Baby's Nova Baby Infant Swings Recalled Over Suffocation Hazard, Violation of Federal Safety Regulations

Jool Baby has recalled more than 63,000 Nova Baby infant swings after regulators said they pose a risk of suffocation.

On Thursday, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled the product, writing that the swings pose a suffocation risk because they have an incline angle greater than 10 degrees and were marketed, intended or designed for infant sleep. The product violates the CPSC's Infant Sleep Products Regulation and the Safe Sleep for Babies Act.

The CPSC also noted that the swing doesn't meet the mandatory warning requirements regarding sleep that are needed under the swing standard.

The products, which were manufactured from June 2022 to September 2023, measure about 28 inches long, 19 inches wide and 24 inches high. They can be powered with AAA batteries or an AC adaptor and come with an electronic remote.

According to the CPSC, customers should immediately stop using the swings for sleep and contact Jool Baby to receive a free repair kit by uploading a photo of the warning label to the firm's online registration page. The repair kit will include a new seat with updated on-product warnings, plush toys and a remote control.

As of now, no injuries have been reported.

"You can continue using the Nova Swing to help keep your baby entertained and engaged," a recall message on the Jool Baby website reads. "However, if your baby falls asleep while in the swing, remove baby and place on a firm, flat surface such as a crib or bassinet.

"Using the Nova Swing or any product with an angle above 10 degrees is not safe for sleep."

In the same message, Jool Baby says that repair kits will be sent out in 2-4 weeks.
