Joni Mitchell cast a spell on the Grammy crowd Sunday as the legendary singer-songwriter performed on the Grammy stage for the first time in her illustrious career.

More than 55 years after winning her first Grammy, for 1969’s Clouds, Mitchell took to the stage for a poignant rendition of “Both Sides Now,” which was recorded for Clouds and has since become one of her signature songs.
“Both Sides Now” is also included on Joni Mitchell at Newport, the live album that won the singer her latest Grammy — for Best Folk Album — at Sunday night’s ceremony. Following the show, the album has returned to multiple charts, including the top ten of Amazon’s rock singer-songwriters list and the top 100 on Amazon’s overall music charts (as of this writing). It’s also in the top 50 (and rising) on iTunes.

The live album was recorded at the Newport Folk Festival on June 24, 2022, where Mitchell was joined by Brandi Carlile, Lucius, Blake Mills, Taylor Goldsmith, Marcus Mumford and Wynonna Judd, among others, as the singer ran through a set of her most memorable songs. In addition to “Both Sides Now,” the album includes live recordings of “Big Yellow Taxi,” “A Case of You” and a cover of George Gershwin’s “Summertime.”
The festival appearance was special for another reason: it marked Mitchell’s first public performance since the singer suffered a brain aneurysm rupture in 2015.
