Jonathan Van Ness Accused of Having 'Rage Issues' on “Queer Eye” Set: Report

The hairstylist was accused of being difficult to work with on set

Jonathan Van Ness is being accused of being "abusive" and having "rage issues" that caused a rift between the Queer Eye Fab Five.

Rolling Stone spoke to seven production sources, who told the outlet in a report published Tuesday that the hairstylist was allegedly difficult to work with.

Reps for Van Ness, who is nonbinary, have not responded to PEOPLE's request for comment.

The magazine's sources described them as a "nightmare," "monster," and "demeaning," and accused them of lashing out at crew members and those who worked closest to them. One source told the outlet that Van Ness "would explode at least once a week."

A source claimed to Rolling Stone that Van Ness "stood out in terms of unprofessionalism, with their various moods dictating how the day would go."

Van Ness' alleged behavior reportedly led to multiple members of the group being reluctant to shoot them. The outlet reports that Netflix had at least one meeting with Van Ness, but the sources said it resulted in "little change."

Back in 2023, Van Ness told PEOPLE he was impressed with his costars' work during season 7, praising Berk's transformation of educator Jenni Sheckles' and deli owner Dan Stein's homes.

Season 9 of the hit show will feature Van Ness, Karamo Brown, Tan France, Antoni Porowski, and Jeremiah Brent, who will be replacing Bobby Berk. When Berk announced his departure, he shared that it was a "necessary" decision to make.

"It's with a heavy heart that I announce that season 8 will be my final season on Queer Eye. It's not been an easy decision to be at peace with, but a necessary one. Although my journey with Queer Eye is over, my journey with you is not. You will be seeing more of me very soon," Berk shared in a lengthy Instagram post in November 2023.

Following the announcement, a source told PEOPLE that "Bobby's departure is unrelated to relationships with his castmates. The parting was amicable."

The source told PEOPLE that Berk "has a handful of projects in development and is also busy with his own company."

The Rolling Stone report also said Queer Eye's fashion expert Tan France "campaigned" to have Berk replaced with Brent following a falling out the two costars had.

Berk addressed the incident with France in a conversation with Vanity Fair in January, sharing that the two "will be fine."

"Tan and I had a moment. There was a situation, and that's between Tan and I, and it has nothing to do with the show. It was something personal that had been brewing — and nothing romantic, just to clarify that," he said.

"Should I have unfollowed Tan? No. Maybe I should have just muted him," continued Berk. "But that day, I was angry, and that's the end of it. We became like siblings — and siblings are always going to fight."
