Jonathan Majors: London Police Confirm Ongoing Inquiry into ‘Physical Assaults’ Accusation

Police in London have confirmed to Rolling Stone there is an ongoing investigation into a report of “physical assaults” leveled against Jonathan Majors amid his domestic violence case.
The 34-year-old is facing criminal charges in New York after he was arrested for allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend in March. The matter is heading to trial on November 29, where Majors faces up to a year in jail if convicted on misdemeanor charges of assault, attempted assault, and aggravated harassment. Majors has vehemently denied the accusation.

Last week, the District Attorney’s office filed a 115-page response to Majors’ legal team’s bid to dismiss the case, in which prosecutors disclosed they had obtained a police report prepared by London’s Metropolitan Police that they deemed relevant to their case. Prosecutors noted they had also obtained medical records stemming from a previously unreported incident from September 2022.
Now, Met Police has confirmed to Rolling Stone that there is an ongoing investigation into the police report, which refers to allegations of “physical assaults” that were said to have taken place at a London-area address in September 2022. “Enquiries are ongoing; no arrests have been made,” a Met Police spokesperson said in a statement on Tuesday. (Per policy, authorities in London do not confirm names of those involved in an investigation. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson declined to comment on any case until a person is charged with an offense.)
It’s the latest blow for Majors who lost another bid last week to dismiss the criminal case against him. Last week, Searchlight Pictures postponed the December release of Magazine Dreams, Majors’ film about a bodybuilder with violent fantasies. (A spokesperson for the studio told Rolling Stone that an updated release date had not been set yet.)
On Wednesday, Variety reported that Marvel executives are rethinking Majors’ place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in light of his arrest and accusations of domestic violence. (Multiple women are said to be cooperating with the DA’s office and Rolling Stone reported in June that Majors was physically and/or emotionally abusive with two previous romantic partners.)
Majors currently plays the multiverse villain Kang the Conqueror, who appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the Disney+ spinoff series Loki. Majors was expected to reprise the character and play the titular role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and is said to play a major part of the Loki Season Two finale.
But the studio reportedly is thinking about recasting Majors or pivoting entirely in a new direction. “Marvel is truly fucked with the whole Kang angle,” an industry source told the outlet. “They haven’t had an opportunity to rewrite until very recently [because of the WGA strike]. But I don’t see a path to how they move forward with him.”
It’s a stark departure from what Loki executive producer Kevin Wright told Variety last month, saying there were no discussions about making changes to the show in light of Majors’ arrest and other allegations. “That mainly came from — I know as much as you do at the moment,” Wright said. “It felt hasty to do anything without knowing how all of this plays out.”
Majors was arrested on March 25 following a fight with his then-girlfriend that began in a taxi cab in Manhattan. Prosecutors allege the woman saw Majors receive a text that read along the lines of, “Wish I was kissing you right now.” The woman went to grab the phone, and Majors allegedly twisted her arm and struck her, according to her police complaint. Majors got out of the car and when his girlfriend tried to follow him, he allegedly grabbed her, picked her up, and threw her back inside. The woman “sustained substantial pain, including a fractured finger, bruising about her body, a laceration behind her right ear, and a bump on her head,” according to prosecutors. Majors was arrested the following morning.
Throughout the ensuing criminal matter, Majors has maintained his innocence, and his attorney Priya Chaudhry has claimed the case is a “witch hunt,” implying there is racial bias. In June, Majors filed his own counter police report against the woman, claiming she attacked him and left him bloody. Based on that police report, the NYPD opened an “investigation card” or an “I-Card” into the matter.
However, prosecutors said in their latest filing that while they were aware of Majors’ police report and the NYPD’s I-Card, they would not be pursuing charges against the woman. “A thorough investigation was conducted into the facts of this case and, in doing so, the People have chosen to prosecute Jonathan Majors,” the court documents state. When the woman voluntarily reported to the NYPD last week to receive a desk appearance ticket, a spokesperson for the DA’s office said it had “officially declined to prosecute the case because it lacks prosecutorial merit. The matter is now closed and sealed.”
