Jonathan Groff is ready to mingle.

The Broadway star, who recently earned his third Tony Award nomination for the revival of Merrily We Roll Along at the Hudson Theatre, opened up about his romantic life in an Out magazine cover story.

“I’ve been single now for a couple of years,” said Groff, 39. “I’m feeling … ready and open for anything.”

As for what his future status might look like, he added, “If that’s continuing with that, if that’s a relationship, I’m cool with that.”

Groff has kept his dating life private, as the cover story indicates, but has been linked in the past to fellow theater stars Gavin Creel and Zachary Quinto. His first boyfriend recently attended a performance of Merrily, per Out, which the actor called a “full-circle moment.”

The Pennsylvania native revealed in 2023 that his coming out story involved seeing Michelangelo's David statue in person. "I started crying and wondered, ‘What is it about this naked man that makes me so emotional?’ ” he told Condé Nast Traveler at the time.

“I decided to come out to my brother,” he recalled then. “Only my roommate knew I was gay, because he was also my secret boyfriend.”

Merrily, which costars Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez, has been a life-changing project for Groff, he told Out.

One of the Stephen Sondheim and George Furth musical’s lines — “I’ve made only one mistake in my life. But I made it over and over. That was saying ‘yes’ when I meant ‘no.’ ” — resonated for him, he said. “Everyone that was closeted at some point can relate to a version of that.… This thing of presenting something that’s different than what’s happening inside felt super personal to me.”

The production, which began Off-Broadway and transferred to a hit Broadway run, has made the trio close friends. When Mendez, 41, married fellow actor J. Alex Brinson on April 22 in New York City, Radcliffe, 34, served as ring bearer while Groff was officiant.
