The Jonas Brothers reveal secrets during Carpool Karaoke lie detector test

Does Nick Jonas think he’s a better singer than his brothers? Do sisters-in-law Priyanka Chopra and Danielle Jonas annoy Joe Jonas? Which member of The Jonas Brothers caused the band to break up originally? We have answers, thanks to James Corden’s lie detector test on The Late Late Show‘s Carpool Karaoke.

The band just got back together for a new documentary and new music, but now, as they joked, Corden brought up old resentments.

The late-night TV host strapped up Nick, Joe, and Kevin to a lie detector test during his popular singing segment and got them to spill the beans. Nick admitted to initially breaking up the band in 2013, but then the lie detector operator called him out when he answered “no” to whether or not he thinks he’s a better singer than his brothers.

Joe and Kevin both got called out, too. Joe answered “no” to the question, “Do any of your brothers’ wives get on your nerves?” And Kevin answered “none” when asked, “how many times have you thought about punching Nick ’cause he split up the band?” The test determined those were lies!

“Thanks for breaking up the band!” Kevin joked when it all was said and done.

Later, after singing through some of their old hits (and some new ones), the siblings offered an explanation for their old purity rings.

“Purity rings were to wait for the right person, when the time was right,” Joe said. “And here’s the catch: When you’re like 12, and you do that, because we grew up in a church, and our dad was a pastor, this came natural for everyone we grew up with to go through this and get one and say, ‘I’m gonna wait for the right person.’ Some people would say, ‘I’ll wait until marriage.’ When you’re about 15, 16, you start dating, and you go, ‘Wait a minute. What did I say I was going to do? What did I say I was gonna promise to do?’”

“We were never going to talk about it because we were like, this is not for the world. It’s own our thing,” he continued. “But of course you have three young boys wearing rings on their fingers, so it’s like, ‘Are they married already? What’s going on here?’ And so we were in an interview one day, the guy asked about them. We said, ‘We don’t talk about them,’ and he said, ‘Well, I’m just gonna say you’re in a cult.’ … We’re scared to death. This was like one of our first interviews. So we’re like, ‘Fine, we’ll talk about it.’ We explained just like I did to you, he runs with it, the next thing you know, it’s the Jonas Brothers and their purity rings. And that was what people ran with forever. That was the running joke. And we found the humor in it sometimes. But, of course, we just decided at one point, ‘Look, this is not who we are. We don’t need to be wearing these anymore. This is annoying. People are making fun of it anyway. We can make fun of it ourselves.’”

Kevin, as it happens, was the first one to take off his ring, to which Corden joked, “You dirty dog.”
