Jon Stewart on Trump’s Reported Court Naps: ‘So Many Crimes, You Get Bored’

On Monday, Donald Trump enjoyed a day of firsts: He was the first former U.S. president to stand trial for an alleged criminal offense, and he was also the first to reportedly fall asleep during this historical moment.
Jon Stewart dedicated a part of The Daily Show that evening to recognize the unprecedented event. “Imagine committing so many crimes, you get bored at your own trial,” quipped the host. “Move on to the good stuff!”
“Now, in case you’ve lost track, this is the trial where Trump allegedly paid hush money to an adult film star that he slept with and then allegedly falsified business records to cover it up. Or as Trump would put it …,” said Stewart, before cutting to a clip of Trump claiming the trial was a “political persecution.”
“It’s a case that should have never been brought,” continued the former president. “It’s an assault of America, and that’s why I’m very proud to be here.”
In response, Stewart observed: “Well, it’s true, Trump is always very proud to be part of any assault on America.”
Earlier in the show, Stewart began his review of the past weekend with a guttural “Ahhhhh!” as he also discussed conservative media declaring Iran’s missile attack on Israel “World War III.” Almost immediately after, the host rolled a report by Today that Israel, the U.S., and its allies shot down 99 percent of Iran’s missiles. (According to The New York Times, Israeli military officials said the strikes left only minor damage to a single Israeli military base, and most of the airborne attacks were blocked.)
“It just shows how effective a military defense system can be when you funnel money away from health care and education,” Stewart said, while noting the interception was assisted by Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the U.A.E, and taking the opportunity to point out the U.S.’ own history of dependence on oil and the Middle East.
