62-year-old singer Jon Bon Jovi is "unsure" of his future performing live on stage after undergoing major surgery in 2022.

The New Jersey native underwent vocal cord surgery two years ago after finding out they were swollen and dangerously thick. Now, Bon Jovi says he is still recovering and isn't sure when he will be back on stage, performing in front of thousands of fans at major concert venues.

Shortly after undergoing the vocal cord surgery, the 'Livin' On a Prayer' singer said that the condition of his vocal cords was "atrophying," as one vocal cord was as "thick as the thumb" and the other being "thick as a pinky."

"So the strong one was pushing the weak one aside, and I wasn’t singing well," he said at the time. "My craft was being taken from me."

Luckily, he was introduced to a surgeon who gave him a "cutting-edge implant to build the cord back up."

Two years after undergoing the vocal cord surgery, Jon Bon Jovi says he is still recovering and is unsure when he will be back on stage.

"I don’t know about a tour," he said during an interview with  Mix 104.1 Boston. "It is my desire to do a tour next year, but I’m just still recovering from a major surgery.”

Adding, "Although I’m well on the road to recovery and was able to take my time and do a song a day when I made the record, my need, want, desire is to be able to do two-and-a-half hours a night four nights a week for months on end."

"And so I’m working towards that goal," the 'It's My Life' artist concluded.

The rock band did announce a new album recently. “The overarching sentiment of this album is that of joy,” Bon Jovi told the Ultimate Classic Rock. He then asked himself, “How did I get to joy?,” before answering his own question, “I had to work through a lot of dark misery!”

The singer says he has "no contact" with Sambora since he abruptly left the band in 2013.

"We're not in contact because he's not in the organization any longer," Bon Jovi told Ultimate Classic Rock about his former band member. "Doesn't mean that there's not love forever, but it's 11 years ago that he just didn't show up anymore."

He went on to say, "And there were emotional issues that he was dealing with as a single dad, and there were substance abuse issues that, you know ... Phil X had to show up one time, and then Phil X had to show up another time. And then, again, there's a show that night. What are we gonna do?"

While the decision seemed abrupt, Sambora told People Magazine it was due to personal issues. “It wasn’t a popular decision by any means, obviously, but there was really almost no choice about it. I had a lot of conscious work to do around [my personal life]."

He added, “I had people around me that loved me, and it was a good thing I got through it … I realized [daughter] Ava needed me to be around at that point in time. Family had to come first, and that’s what happened.”

In the trailer for 'Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story', Sambora admitted, “I don’t regret leaving. I regret how I did it.”

He was replaced by guitarist Phil X in 2016. 'Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story', premieres on Hulu on April 26.
