JoJo Siwa is getting candid about her dating life — and how her career as a child star still impacts her relationships to this day.
After coming out as gay in early 2021, JoJo admits she really hasn't had the ability to experience relationships like a normal teenager.
During an appearance on the We're Having Gay Sexpodcast, JoJo explained that her stardom has made dating a little "wacky" for both herself and her partners.
"It's weird, it's confusing, it's hard for me, it's hard for the person I'm dating or talking to, because I can't do things," JoJo explained.
She continued, "How most people can go on a dinner date, I can't go on a dinner date, normally. I can, but I have to call and say 'I'm JoJo Siwa, can I have a private table in a private room?'"
JoJo says having so many people know who she is has affected her sex life, too, admitting she thinks it's probably different than it is for other teenagers.
"I've only had sex in the privacy [of] my own room…or my own hotel room," JoJo explained. "I don't know really what normal teenagers do, but I'm assuming — a bathroom stall — whatever. But because of who I am, I can't do that."
"There's such a gap because when I was 9, I was expected to work and act as if I was 18. So now that I'm 19, I'm in a mental space of a 29-year-old," JoJo said.
She continued, "So, like, me dating another 19-year-old... There's a very big maturity difference in just my life experience and a normal 19-year-old."
JoJo added that she didn't have a traditional high school experience either after being homeschooled and graduating at 15.
While she says she "wouldn't change it for anything," she admits she missed out on opportunities to figure out dating and relationships.
"I'm very behind in the world of love. Because most people go to a freshman dance, and they go with a date, and then they go to homecoming with a different date," JoJo said.
She added, "Then they go to prom 14 times, and then they go to prom at the other school, and then they have a summer fling, and then they have their hookup in the car in the school parking lot."
And because she "never had any of that," she says she sometimes feels like she's "an eighth grader in love land."
