JoJo Siwa, who many know as the girl with the high pony and big bow, has left that part of her life in the past and is romanticizing her rebrand.

Opening up about her decision to change her look on Call Her Daddy Tuesday, Siwa, 20, revealed that she drew inspiration from Miley Cyrus' Bangerz moment in 2013.

"When I was 8 is when Miley had her Bangerz moment and I was like, 'All I want is to have that one day.' I want that," the former Dance Moms star told host Alex Cooper on the podcast, referencing Cyrus' fourth studio album that let her inner wild child shine.

"Honestly since I was 15 my whole inner circle has been talking about it and getting excited for it," Siwa continued. "And then two years ago is when I started writing new music. I got out of my Nickelodeon music contract."

In 2022, Siwa was pitched the song "Karma" and she fell in love with it — but the first line, "I was a bad girl," didn't sit right at the time and she decided to shelve it.

Then, Siwa had an idea for the music video and realized, "This is my 180."

When Cooper asked Siwa how she feels about the criticism she's faced online with her rebrand, Siwa said "Karma" did exactly what she wanted it to — and it gave her the moment "I've always wanted."

"I will never claim to be a singer but I will claim to be an artist. I am giving the world art and they might not like it, they might hate it, but they're enjoying it," she said. "And it's become a bit of a guilty pleasure for everyone."

Last month, Siwa caught up with PEOPLE at the 2024 GLAAD Awards and hinted the public can expect to hear and see new content from her they “have not seen from me before.”

“I've seen people before me make this transition, I've seen how much I loved it, and I've seen also how much the world has criticized us, so I am ready for that. One thing that I think no one's done is given the heads-up,” she said, referring to her recent social media posts.

She added, “It was important to me to give that heads-up and be like, look, if you follow along, that's all you. If you want to go, now's your time. But in the best way possible, now's your time.”

On April 5, Siwa's former dance teacher and Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller posted a video after she watched her music video and only had positive comments.

“Whoa! I want to be on that boat. I thought it was absolutely amazing,” Miller said when the music video ended. “I’m going to watch it over and over and over again. I'm sure that's what JoJo is counting on — that everyone is just going to watch it [repeatedly].”
