Austin native Johnny Hardwick died in his home in Texas this week, numerous outlets reported Thursday. He was 64-years-old.

Hardwick was best known for voicing the character of Dale Gribble on "King of the Hill" on more than 250 episodes during the show's run from 1997 to 2010.

Hardwick's Texan humor was a key ingredient in the show written and produced by creators Greg Daniels and Mike Judge and set in the fictional Texas town of Arlen.

Judge took to social media to remember Hardwick, referencing an iconic line from Gribble.

"Sorry for everyone’s loss! We are gunna miss you Johnny! Sha sha and just like sand thru a pocket he’s the stars now," Judge wrote on Instagram before removing the text from his post.

King of the Hill reboot: Will Dale Gribble be featured?

The short answer is, we don't know. Hulu ordered a reboot of the show in January 2023. It's not clear how far into production the show is and when it is slated to begin streaming on Hulu.

It's also not clear if the writer's strike is affecting production of the show either.
