Johnny Depp testified a quote where he said he'll hit people when angry and doesn't 'care what the repercussions are' may have been a reference to paparazzi

Johnny Depp questioned a magazine quote from 1995 on Wednesday where he appeared to say that he'd hit people when he's angry, claiming it may have been in reference to paparazzi photographers.

When Depp took the stand for the second time in the weeks-long defamation trial, lawyers for his ex-wife Amber Heard asked Depp to confirm whether he had previously said anything indicating he would hit someone if he was angry.

"I have a lot of love in me and a lot of anger inside me as well. If I love somebody, then I'm gonna love 'em. If I'm angry and I've got to lash out or hit somebody, I'm going to do it. And I don't care what the repercussions are. Anger. Doesn't pay rent. It's gotta go. It's gotta be evicted," Heard's lawyer Benjamin Rottenborn read aloud, from a 1995 Premiere magazine article.

Rottenborn then showed jurors a version of that article that included Depp's quote.

Depp initially denied ever saying that then added that he might've said it in reference to paparazzi.

After Heard's lawyer read the quote again, Depp acknowledged he did read the quote from the magazine correctly but didn't confirm one way or another whether he did, in fact, make that statement.

"Possibly about paparazzi," Depp remarked.

Depp outright denied other quotes Rottenborn attributed to him, including text messages where he appeared to make vulgar remarks about a woman's body.

Depp and Heard have been wrapped up in a defamation trial for weeks, which began when Depp sued Heard over a Washington Post article in which she said she had been abused.

Depp claimed it was obvious she was writing about him and that his career suffered as a result. Heard then countersued her ex-husband, accusing him of abusing her.
