Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash’s Kids Attend 2024 CMTs for Special Presentation

John Carter Cash and Carlene Carter paid tribute to their late mother’s memory with a joint red carpet appearance at the 2024 CMT Music Awards on Sun., April 7.

The late June Carter Cash is the namesake of a special new CMT award that will be presented during the April 7 ceremony.

Carlene, June’s oldest child with her first husband, Carl Smith, posed on the red carpet wearing a dark red sequin jacket and matching red sequin pants. Both the jacket and pant legs featured a flowered design with lighter red petals and light green stems.

Carlene, 68, paired the look with a black top that was visible beneath her jacket and shiny black shoes. As she posed on the red carpet, she turned to reveal that a special message, “Carter Girl,” was emblazoned on the back in shiny silver sequins.

Carlene stood on the red carpet next to her younger half-brother, John. John, 54, was the only child that Johnny Cash and June had together. He was born in 1970, shortly after the two country stars tied the knot in 1968.

John posed on the red carpet wearing a white button-down dress shirt, gray blazer and black pants. He paired the look with a red tie and a cream-colored wide-brim hat.

On John’s other side stood his wife, fellow singer Ana Cristina Cash. She wore a black strapless gown that featured a velvety floral pattern and gauzy skirt that was see-through from her feet to her lower thighs. She paired the look with a matching choker necklace that stood out with its one large black flower.

The three posed together on the red carpet before heading inside for this year’s CMT Music Awards. Late last month, event organizers announced that Trisha Yearwood would be receiving the inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award, an award named for their late mother.

The award is intended to recognize “an artist, duo/group or industry veteran who demonstrates an exceptional dedication to the community and their fellow artists as Cash did,” according to CMT.
