John Witherspoon passed away at the age of 77 and his family, celebrity friends, and fans mourned his passing.
He is known for playing the eccentric father on some of our favorite tv shows and movies and that is why he is a serious contender for being the greatest TV dad.
Witherspoon's most iconic role was playing Ice Cube's character's father, Mr. Jones, in the 1995 movie, "Friday."
His Most Memorible 'Friday' Scene
Fans connected with Witherspoon's character because he embodied all aspects of fatherhood.
His character was embarrassing, funny, touching, and a good role model.
Witherspoon's most memorable scene featured him teaching Craig, Ice Cube's character, about gun violence.
"So quick to pick up a gun," Witherspoon said in his emotional monologue from the first "Friday" movie.
John's character then held up his fists and said, "You win some, you lose some, but you live... you live to fight another day."
He Stunk Up The Bathroom, Like Our Dads
Let's not forget how he portrayed all of our dads with his famous bathroom scenes.
"Don't nobody go in the bathroom for about 35, 45 minutes," Mr. Jones announced as he left the toilet.
Pops from 'The Wayans Bros.'
Witherspoon was also the tv dad of Marlon and Shawn Wayans on their 90s show, "The Wayans Bros."
He played the lovable Pops and he ran the restaurant while the Wayans brothers got caught up in crazy hijinks. He always had some sage advice for his tv children when they needed it most.
Pops embarrassed the brothers constantly but nothing was more embarrassing than his "freestyle" from the classic show.
He also had memorable roles in "Hollywood Shuffle," "Boomerang," and "Vampire in Brooklyn."
Witherspoon will be missed and the world lost one of it's most lovable treasures.
RIP John Witherspoon.
