John Wick will indeed return to kill again, as Lionsgate announced Monday that “John Wick: Chapter 4” will hit theaters May 21, 2021.
The announcement of a fourth “John Wick” film comes after the 3rd installment in the series, “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum,” knocked “Avengers: Endgame” from the top spot at box office in its debut weekend. The film earned $56 million at the domestic box office and another $36 million internationally for a worldwide total of $92.2 million.
That’s nearly double the $30.4 million opening for 2017’s “John Wick: Chapter 2,” and the largest opening weekend for a Lionsgate release since the $102 debut of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2” in 2015.
As with the two preceding “John Wick” films, both critics and audiences have given “Chapter 3” strong marks with an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score and an A- CinemaScore.
“John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum” is, like the previous two films directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad, with cinematography by Dan Laustsen (“The Shape of Water”) and production desig by Kevin Kavanaugh (“Sicario: Day of the Soldado”).
