John Travolta Says His New Shaved Head Is Here to Stay: 'It Feels Great'

John Travolta surprised fans by debuting a completely shaved head to ring in 2019 and according to the actor, his new look is here to stay for a while.

“[It] feels great,” Travolta told PEOPLE at the G’Day USA Black Tie Gala on Saturday. “Listen, my new look came on a whim. It was a New Year’s Eve idea. Because everyone liked it so much, I decided to keep it for a while. So, we’ll see.”

Travolta debuted his new look on January 6 in a selfie with his 18-year-old daughter with wife Kelly Preston, Ella Travolta, then thanked fans for their supportive comments in a video with his 8-year-old son, Benjamin.

To celebrate getting 1 million followers on Instagram, he shared a video speaking straight to fans. “Hey there, Ben Travolta, John Travolta here. We’re dirt biking today and we just got the great news that it’s hit over a million followers on Instagram,” the actor said while wearing a cap on his head.

“We love you and we thank you and also, thanks for liking the new hair ‘do,” he added, momentarily lifting his hat up to show off his new look. “Yeah.”

Another fan of his look is Ella, who he says “loves” her dad’s new do.

“She loves it,” the 64-year-old shares. “And she’s a beauty, isn’t she? She’s so amazing, and so unlike what you think a teenager, the cliché of a teenager. She’s different, and she’s gracious, and she’s lovely, she’s well-mannered, and she’s thoughtful, and it’s authentic. It’s very old school. She reminds me of an older movie star. Another era. So I’m very proud of her.”

He reveals that she doesn’t do the typical teenage rebellion acts. When asked if she’s ever tried to sneak out of the house, he replied that she’s never needed to. “She still asks permission to do things, [and I’m like] ‘Honey, you’re 18 — do what you want to do.’ She said, ‘No, but I like your opinion on it.’ I have a good relationship with her.”

The actor previously had lock longs throughout the month of December.
