John Stamos Says Bob Saget Would've Been the Mediator to Fix 'Dynamics' Among “Full House” Cast: 'He Was the Glue'

The 'If You Would Have Told Me' author tells PEOPLE that "something's definitely missing" when the cast gets together after Saget's passing, but they're "still just as close"

John Stamos is opening up about where the Full House cast's bond currently stands without beloved costar Bob Saget.

The If You Would Have Told Me author tells PEOPLE that Saget — who died in January 2022 at age 65 — was "the glue" who "got us all together" in the years since the ABC sitcom concluded in 1995.

"To be very honest with you, he was the glue. And now, it's rare ... you know, we're not all together," he continues. "I think there's some dynamics going on with the cast that maybe, I think, Bob probably would've been the guy to come in and [fix things]."

"I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to get in whatever's going on," he continues. "It's not what you think it is. I mean, I think there's other things. But Bob was always the one. He was the glue. He would be there now."

Jodie Sweetin and Candace Cameron Bure's notable political differences have sparked speculation about the pair's current off-screen relationship. However, amid rumors, the two former on-screen sisters recently reunited at 90s Con in Tampa with other Full House alum last month.

Stamos didn't elaborate on what the ongoing "dynamics" at hand entailed. However, the Big Shot actor tells PEOPLE, "We're still just as close."

As for whether things have gotten any easier since Saget's unexpected death, Stamos admits "something's definitely missing" — but he still does everything in his power to keep his friend's memory alive.

"I talk about him all the time," he shares. "You know that movie Coco, where they say, 'You have to keep talking about the people that are dead or they'll die again up there,' or whatever. Put pictures up. I talk about him all the time."

Stamos then quips, "And if I don't, I can hear him complaining up there. But that's the way I've kept him alive."

Part of the inspiration for choosing to pen his debut memoir came after Stamos wrote an emotional yet heartfelt speech for Saget that he delivered at the late comedian's 2022 memorial service. Before that, the General Hospital alum didn't think he was "interesting enough" and was "worried about being able to come up with enough" material.

"The only reason why I said 'yes' was because I thought about Bob," he explains. "And then, I found these notes, my mom's notes, which were kind of guiding me through the thing. And I went, 'OK, well there's a starting point.'"
