John Ortiz Joins Search For ‘God Particle’; WWE Studios & Sony Tag-Team On ‘The Marine 5: Battleground’

John Ortiz has been tapped to round out the cast of God Particle, the Julius Onah-helmed sci-fi pic from Paramount Pictures and JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot. Production is now set to begin June 10 in Los Angeles on the movie that already stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Oyelowo, Daniel Bruhl, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris O’Dowd, Zhang Ziyi and Aksel Hennie. A February 24, 2017 release date has been staked out. The script from 22 Jump Street‘s Oren Uziel and Star Trek Beyond‘s Doug Jung centers on the effort by scientists aboard an international space station looking for a new energy source to try to tap the power of the mysterious “God Particle,” inadvertently triggering catastrophic side effects. Abrams and Lindsey Weber are producing, with Tommy Harper and Bob Dorhmann executive producing. Ortiz is repped by Gersh, Sanders Armstrong Caserta Management and Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams.

WWE Studios and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions are teaming on The Marine 5: Battleground, the latest in the franchise that began in 2006 with the John Cena-starring The Marine. James Nunn is directing the latest and WWE wrestlers The Miz, Maryse Ouellet, Heath Slater, Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel, and Naomi will star. Filming kicks off May 31 in Vancouver. The Miz returns as Jake Carter, an ex-Marine who served in the Middle East and is now saving civilian lives stateside as an EMT. He finds himself protecting an injured man from a ruthless biker gang and utilizes his unique skills to stop the bikers’ rampage. Ed McHenry and Rory McHenry penned the script.
