John Oliver urges Congress to act on Comey firing: 'It's on you'

John Oliver slams Trump over Comey firing

Donald Trump shocked the world last Tuesday when he fired FBI Director James Comey, prompting a lot of reactions — including Anderson Cooper’s eye roll — as people processed the surprising news.

Not surprisingly, John Oliver gave his take on Sunday’s episode of Last Week Tonight. As the video above demonstrates, the host urged Congress to reprimand Trump for his latest actions, stating that “what has happened is f—ed up.”

Oliver then touched upon Republican members of Congress who didn’t seem to either address Trump’s actions, or how problematic they are. “The founding fathers created a system of checks and balances to limit the power of the president,” Oliver reminded them. “But it only works if someone checks or balances. And if you don’t, it’s no longer on Trump. It’s on you.”

Oliver isn’t the only late-night host to tackle Comey’s firing in the last week. Samantha Bee stressed this wasn’t a partisan issue, while Jimmy Kimmel called Trump a dictator.
