John Oliver mocks Jay Leno's call for civility by digging up his past attacks on Monica Lewinsky

On Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, former Tonight Show host Jay Leno became the target of a classic Oliver rant. In an appearance on the Today show last week, Leno lamented the current climate in late night, saying he’d like to see a bit of civility come back to it. So, while talking about public shaming and the effect it can have on someone’s life, Oliver expressed regret for a segment he did on Monica Lewinsky on The Daily Show in 2008, then showed clips of Leno making Lewinsky jokes that were anything but civil. Oliver also pointed out that while other comedians, such as David Letterman and Bill Maher, have said publicly that they regret making jokes at Lewinsky’s expense, Leno never has.

Oliver then took a page out of Leno’s book and put his own little twist on a Dr. Seuss classic. After showing picture of Leno holding a fake book with a drawing of Lewinsky on the cover titled The S**t in the Hat, Oliver said, “If that’s what he means by civility, may I offer my new book, Oh, the Places You Can Go F**k Yourself, Jay Leno! Look how civil I’m being. Look how civil this is.”
