John Oliver Trolls New York Yankees on ‘Last Week Tonight’

On Sunday’s Last Week Tonight, John Oliver took on the New York Yankees by giving away tickets to the Yankee premium Legends Suite club to fans who don’t fit the definition of “elite.”

He opened the segment by saying “There is only one thing we can be absolutely sure of this season, and that is the Yankees will continue finding ways to be the biggest elitist a**holes in all of sports.” Oliver went on to explain that the club is über premium, designed to be exclusionary.

Lonn Trost, the chief operating officer for the Yankees, recently made remarks about people who bought tickets to the Legends club, saying these fans would not want to be near “someone who has never sat in a premium location. So that’s a frustration to our existing fanbase.”

To make those elitist people more uncomfortable, Oliver gave six tickets to the Legends club to viewers who will look like they don’t belong in the Legends club. He asked viewers to tweet pictures of themselves using #ihaveneversatinapremiumlocation.

Last Week Tonight airs Sundays at 11 p.m. on HBO.
