John Oliver and “SNL” roast “Vanderpump Rules”’ Tom Sandoval: 'Pure narcissist'

Despite attempts to rehab his image on Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, The Masked Singer, and elsewhere, it's clear that Tom Sandoval hasn't quite found forgiveness in the eyes of the public after last year's "Scandoval" ordeal on Vanderpump Rules.

Following last week's controversial New York Times profile, Sandoval became a punching bag over the weekend. He was the butt of jokes on both Last Week Tonight With John Oliver and Saturday Night Live.

John Oliver dedicated the second episode of Last Week Tonight's new season to investigating a surprisingly effective online scam called "pig butchering," where scammers convince victims to gradually contribute increasing amounts of money in cryptocurrency before leaving with all their money, similar to fattening a hog before slaughter. Oliver defended the honor of real pigs, who, the Emmy-winning host said, "are awesome." He continued, "They're one of the most intelligent animals on the planet. They're smarter than dogs, most three-year-olds, and Tom Sandoval."

It's fair. Did Sandoval ever let a Border Collie adopt him to help the dog deal with the trauma of having their puppies put up for sale? No. Score one for Babe. 

On SNL's "Weekend Update," a frozen embryo, played by Marcello Hernández, popped up to discuss the wild Alabama Supreme Court decision that said frozen embryos are legally people. The "Weekend Update" embryo also had no time for Sandoval's hijinks, telling anchor Colin Jost, "I don't have a brain. I don't have a heart. I'm like Tom Sandoval."

It also threw out that even without eyes, it can see that "Tom's a pure narcissist."

It's been almost a year since the scandal dubbed "Scandoval" took place. Sandoval was revealed to have been cheating on Vanderpump Rules regular Ariana Madix with costar Raquel Leviss, who has since left the show. It made the players household names and put the reality show back into the cultural zeitgeist.

Since the show's new season debuted in January, the scandal's key characters have again found the spotlight. However, more blunders have followed for the man that the New York Times Magazine labeled the "most hated man in America." In that interview, he told the Times that the scandal's impact was similar to George Floyd and the O.J. Simpson trial.

“My intentions behind the comments I made in New York Times Magazine were to explain the level of national media attention my affair received," Sandoval said in an inevitable social media apology. "The comparison was inappropriate and ignorant. I’m incredibly sorry and embarrassed."
