John Oliver addresses Queen Elizabeth joke being censored in the U.K.

On Late Night With Seth Meyers Monday, John Oliver addressed his joke about the death of Queen Elizabeth II being censored on the U.K. broadcast of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver last Sunday.

“All we said was that Britain was still mourning the shocking loss of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes. It’s literally not a joke. Scientifically, it’s not a joke. That’s just a fact with a kind of d***-ish inflection, that’s all it is,” Oliver said. “They cut it out, which is pretty s****y. Because apparently, all we’ve heard all week is the queen had the incredible sense of humor. Just nonstop. Oh, she was so funny. Seth, she was so funny. The queen, she — razor sharp.”

Oliver has never shied away from his disdain for the royal family, and took this opportunity to take one last shot at the queen for a sketch she did with Paddington Bear earlier this year as part of her Platinum Jubilee.

“And there she was with Paddington,” Oliver said. “I’m watching a bear carry her comedically in that scene. She’s giving that bear nothing back. There is one set of footprints in the sand, and it’s a paw. But she was a huge comedy fan.”

JOHN OLIVER: All he said was that Britain is still mourning the shocking loss of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes. It's not-- it's not-- literally not a joke. Scientifically, that's not a joke. That's just a fact with the kind of [BLEEP] inflection. That's all it is.

- John Oliver joined "Late Night with Seth Meyers" Monday, where he addressed a joke about the death of Queen Elizabeth being censored when the latest episode of "Last Week Tonight" aired in the UK.

JOHN OLIVER: They cut it out.

SETH MYERS: Wow.

JOHN OLIVER: Which is pretty [BLEEP] because apparently all we've heard all week is the queen had incredible sense of humor so. Just nonstop.

SETH MYERS: Are you a little doubtful?

JOHN OLIVER: Oh, she was so funny. Seth, she was so funny. The Queen's head, razor sharp.

- Oliver has repeatedly gone after the royal family, whether it be for a lavish royal wedding or for the family's alleged reaction to Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle. And Oliver took this opportunity to take one last shot at the Queen for a sketch she did with Paddington Bear earlier this year as part of her Platinum Jubilee.

JOHN OLIVER: Oh, and she was with Paddington. I'm watching a bear carry her comedically in that scene. She's giving that bear nothing back. There is one set of footprints in the sand, and it's a paw. But she was a huge comedy fan.

SETH MYERS: Huge comedy fan.
